Take advantage of the inexpensive or absolutely FREE activities that the Olympic Peninsula has for the whole family! We'll help make your trip even more affordable this year. Book seven (7) nights in the Summer House and pay for only five (5) nights -- a savings of $900 or more!
A family of four will save another $200 per day by cooking their own meals in one of our Vacation Rentals which all feature beautiful gourmet kitchens and stainless-steel gas grills. So grab some fresh salmon and corn-on-the-cob at a nearby Farmer's Market, take the kids berry picking at one of a dozen organic U-pick farms in the area -- and you've got the fixins' for some great summertime memories!
Tucked away on its own little lake and surrounded by acres of lush landscaping,
The Summer House is located just opposite little Quail Lake from the award-winning Lost Mountain Lodge. Meandering pathways in the woods connect the Summer House property to the gardens surrounding the Lodge, and it's a short stroll through this arboretum-like setting to the Main Lodge.
The Summer House was built as a private Estate home on 2.5 acres. The residence itself is more than 2850-square feet. With four bedrooms and four --count them FOUR -- stylish bathrooms, the house will comfortably sleep up to 3 couples privately or 8 to 10 persons total. Of course with grounds as well-tended as these, one would expect the interior spaces to be equally grand. The Summer House is undeniably the most luxurious, upscale vacation rental on the entire Olympic Peninsula.
Next, there's the setting with extraordinary, idyllic views in all directions. The photos here give but a glimpse of the remarkable privacy and seclusion that guests in The Summer House will enjoy. Little Quail Lake -- nearly an acre in size -- is named for those charming, diminutive birds which inhabit the reeds at the water's edge.
Step into the gracious foyer and look straight through the Great Room's double French doors to a completely private backyard and spacious patio bordered by acres of woods full of black-tail deer and songbirds.
The Great Room features vaulted ceilings and a new custom slate fireplace with cherry mantel. The large evergreen-colored chenille sectional is placed perfectly for enjoying the fireplace and the view. It's also the best seat in the house to enjoy a movie on the new 32-inch, widescreen, flat-panel HDTV with DVD-VCR in the custom pine & wrought iron entertainment center with ambient lighting.
Just off the Great Room, a casual dining area is open to the kitchen with French doors that provide a lovely view of the woodland backyard. There's a charming hand-painted Country French chandelier that matches the custom drapes. The large farm table seats eight comfortably and the green-glazed chairs provide a fresh twist on the traditional Amish style.
A large open kitchen is big enough for several cooks, yet warm and cozy. The kitchen features custom white-washed oak cabinets, glazed ceramic tile counters, wall ovens, a 4-burner radiant cooktop, stainless steel double sink, dishwasher, and extra large side-by-side refrigerator with ice & water in the door. There's plenty of counter space and lots of storage so you can really pack in the groceries and hibernate if you choose!
In addition to lots of light (we love a kitchen that glows, don't you?), we've tried to think of everything. There's an ample supply of dishes with a fun Farmer's Market motif and nice, heavy gauge flatware -- both with service for 12 so you don't have to wash a mug or spoon for your second cup of coffee. The cupboards are well stocked with really nice glassware (French tumbler style), wine glasses, extra large serving bowls, great Caphalon style pots & pans (and lots of them), bakeware, a griddle for pancakes, a waffle iron, coffee maker, toaster, blender, even a spice rack. We also stock basic sundries such as plastic wrap, aluminum foil, dish soap, and coffee filters. There's also a nice pantry and large laundry room with full-size washer & dryer just off the kitchen.
Next, there's possibly the loveliest master suite on the entire Olympic Peninsula -- we call it the Hideaway on Quail Lake. This suite is more than 950-sq.ft. and features a vaulted ceiling with three (3) skylights and walls of windows or French doors on three sides of the room! A wonderful contemporary 4-poster bed in carved ebony is the room's centerpiece and is placed to take advantage of the serene views in all directions. The bed is dressed simply in ethereal linens by Via Breva, a fluffy down comforter with European duvet, and creamy Italian matelasse.
There's a stunning granite fireplace framed by a wall of East-facing windows that capture dappled morning sunlight through the trees. In the evening, open the windows and let the gentle sounds of the creek and the forest lull you to sleep. The lighting in this room is just magnificent at night -- with spot lights accenting the fireplace, the paintings, the alcoves -- even the carved ebony side tables have ambient lights that cast a warm glow on the plush carpet.
A huge window with a window seat overlooks Quail Lake. The extra plush cover of yummy chenille in a cocoa-colored paisley is set off by silk duponi drapes in a lustrous carmel color. Step thru one set of French doors onto your private deck with lovely lake views. Yet another set of French doors opens onto a totally private south-facing porch furnished with two comfy chaises, a fun outdoor rug, mosaic tile cocktail table, even a cozy floor lamp -- making it a great spot to kick back, sip a glass of wine, enjoy those last rays of afternoon sunshine, and linger awhile as twilight envelops your own private aerie.
The stunning master bath also features a vaulted ceiling, skylight, and large window overlooking a private garden. There are topaz granite counters with double sinks, a jetted garden tub, a separate shower with rainfall shower head, and European porcelain tile floors that are soft underfoot. The details are what make this room -- the oil-rubbed bronze faucets and hardware, the espresso colored custom cabinetry, the stone insets and trim, and walnut-framed custom mirror.
NOTE: This master suite is NOT included when booking the Summer House Lock-off. You must reserve the Summer House + Hideaway on Quail Lake if you wish to have this master bedroom, bath & kitchenette included in your rental.
Other bedrooms also enjoy peaceful views of sunny meadows or Quail Lake. Like the master suite, they also feature a king bed, down comforters, European linens, and upscale furnishings. So if several generations share this home for a family vacation, no one is short-changed and everyone gets a good night's sleep on a REAL bed (NO lumpy pull-out sofas here). You'll also enjoy the same quality linens that we use at the Lost Mountain Lodge -- high threadcount, 100-percent cotton percale sheets & duvet covers and extra thick Turkish towels.
There's the Crimson Rose room with its deep red walls and hand-painted round side tables that repeat the gorgeous floral pattern in the Chinese silk draperies that frame an oversized arch-top window overlooking the lake. Again, it's the little details and the impeccable furnishings that make all the difference.
The Morning Mist room also features a built-in window seat with comfy upholstered cushion (the perfect spot for a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon cup of tea). There's another king bed and wonderful cottage furniture in a creamy linen color. Like the other bedrooms, this room features a lovely view of Quail Lake. Everyone especially loves the Black & White toile print shower curtain and window coverings in the full bath (tub & shower) for this room.
Even the secondary bathrooms have luxurious touches such as beautiful mirrors, custom lighting, and wonderful artwork. In this bathroom, there's a black-granite topped vanity and bronze relief framed beveled mirror. Guests at The Summer House are pampered with fine hotel luxuries such as botanical toiletries, built-in hair dryers, luggage racks, and extra thick Turkish towels.
We include these detail photos to give you a glimpse of the lovely interiors of this custom home that are 180-degrees from rustic.
A large dormer room on the 2nd floor is outfitted as the Kid's Suite with four (4) white picket fence beds, playful bedding in bright colors, and a bath with a skylight right over the shower making it an ideal retret for cousins, best friends, or the young at heart!
Wonderful garden furniture with two, large umbrella tables and seating for twelve (12) creates a bistro-ambience for dining al fresco on the completely private back patio.
Add a stainless steel gas barbecue and the musical sounds of cascading water in the creek that borders the property, and you have the perfect, private oasis to enjoy summer evenings after a day of exploring. By the way, it's light here until almost 10:00 PM in the summer.
