SUMMER 2008 OPENINGS
Hurry, TWO openings just became available due to last minute changes. A 5-night minimum stay is preferred in Peak Season of July & August:
July 29-August 5
August 24-29

The 1916 Farm House is a classic Craftsman bungalow with lovely old windows that frame glorious views of the Olympic Mountains. Fully restored and artfully updated in 2002, this sunlit Nantucket-style cottage sits off an old country road bordered by farmland in all directions.

Since we are personally committed to preserving dwindling farmland in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, much of our 5-acres remain "farmland" surrounded by a conservation easement of open space and dedicated farmland that is part of the original 100-acre farm. That leaves nearly an acre of old orchard trees, lawn, and gardens for guests to enjoy while staying at our home -- and the conservation easement keeps the wide open spaces that way forever. So when guests stay here, they enjoy the same views as the original owners did when Teddy Roosevelt was President!

In fact, the 1916 Farm House is part of history. The last WWII Aircraft Lookout Tower in the United States once stood on this property (the Tower is now listed on the National Register of Historic Sites). Local volunteers manned this Lookout post around the clock, 365 days a year, between December 1941 and September 1945. A scale replica of the Tower, spotter records, aircraft charts, and other memorabilia are on display in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Museum & Arts Center.

While simplicity and light are what make our 1916 Farm House so appealing, we've added a dash of "fresh country style." Shades of cream and buttermilk enhance the wonderful architectural features of this historic homestead -- the original fir wainscoting, cove moldings, high ceilings, and lovely, large windows.

Discover how quickly the cares of the world fade away in the cozy living room with its original fireplace lovingly crafted nearly a century ago with stones from the nearby Dungeness River. The dining room features original wainscoting with leaded windows and a built-in china hutch. The entire home is warm, cozy and beautifully furnished with new furniture in the Arts & Crafts style. Creaking rocking chairs on the front porch spell cottage comfort with a capital "C".

L
ocated 3 miles from the main Lodge, the 1916 Farm House is an ideal home base for exploring the best the Olympic Peninsula has to offer. You are less than 2 minutes by car to the Dungeness Spit and its 5-mile-long walking beach, about 2-blocks to the Olympic Discovery Trail (for biking and jogging), just over 2 miles to the main highway for the Olympic National Park, and under 2 hours to rugged and windswept Pacific Coast and Cape Flattery trails.

There are two large, light-filled bedrooms on the main floor -- one with a King-size pillowtop bed; the other features a Queen-size pillowtop bed. Two charming attic rooms are simply dressed in colors of sea and sky with twin beds. Playful sheets and rugs by Pottery Barn and painted wooden floors make the attic space an ideal "hideaway" for kids!

Need a break from sightseeing and hectic schedules? Spend an afternoon baking a homemade pie with apples from the orchard or wild blackberries that grow along the old fences. Spend the day reading in a sunny lounge chair from the expansive new terraced deck with its jaw-dropping views of the Olympic Mountains. Finally, the night sky is so clear here that you can actually count satellites while star-gazing from the hydrotherapy spa.

Two new bathrooms -- both on the main level --feature beadboard wainscoting, Kohler fixtures, period reproduction lighting, and wonderful Marmoleum flooring (so warm & soft underfoot) creating a tasteful blend of early 1900's ambience and 21st-Century conveniences.

A delightful farmhouse kitchen underscores a simpler way of life from a bygone era with custom cherry cabinetry, beadboard accents, and soapstone-style countertops. Of course, new modern appliances such as a dishwasher, refrigerator with bottom-freezer & ice maker, a four-burner radiant cooktop with large oven, and microwave add to the enjoyment of your stay without detracting from the character of the house. Don't feel like cooking? Keep it simple. Pick up some fresh salmon and sweet corn-on-the-cob at the nearby country market and fire up the new stainless steel gas grill for a relaxing summer BBQ.

This historic residence has a unique charm -- as well as superb amenities -- that you won't find in other vacation rentals on the entire Olympic Peninsula:
